With the winter storm season upon us, here are some safety tips to protect your computer and its contents from weather-related problems. Whether it’s an enterprise-level server, a tablet, a personal laptop, a smartphone or a home-based desktop system, exposure to bad weather can cause equipment failure and data loss.
While damage from flooding is an obvious concern, any sudden change in electrical supply (such as a sudden spike, surge or drop in power) can also damage your system and cause the loss of important documents, pictures, video and other business data.
First, make sure you have a complete backup copy of anything that’s important. If you have to evacuate, take at least one copy of the data with you.
Second, if flooding is predicted, move your computer equipment to the highest point in your home or office.
