Event:          Flash Memory Summit
Date:            August 9, 2016
Time:            4:35–5:45pm
Location:   Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, CA

Abstract: Keeping Content out of Harm’s Way

Industry experts discuss the current status of film storage with an emphasis on costs when the producer is providing the budget, rather than depending on a contract. Storage demands are huge nowadays, with amounts often in the multi-terabyte or even exabyte range. So costs can soar, regardless of whether one is using one’s own equipment or obtaining storage over the cloud. Using cloud facilities reduces capital costs, but can also mean high monthly bills and long transfer times. And, of course, with capacities being strained and new vendors, equipment and procedures coming into use, there is an ever-increasing potential for disasters which can render all cost estimates moot.
