Entender c\u00f3mo funcionan los discos duros es clave para darles un mantenimiento adecuado y extender su funcionalidad y longevidad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pero aprender c\u00f3mo funciona un disco duro no es una tarea f\u00e1cil. Existen m\u00faltiples componentes, protocolos y programas que constantemente trabajan en conjunto para que usted pueda leer y escribir datos siempre que lo necesite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aunque pudiera parecer todo un desaf\u00edo, familiarizarse con conceptos inform\u00e1ticos y entender que es AHCI en comparaci\u00f3n con RAID, o IDE en comparaci\u00f3n con SATA, puede ayudarle a mantener su disco duro rindiendo al m\u00e1ximo durante el mayor tiempo posibe.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 es SATA?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SATA son las siglas de Serial Advanced Technology Attachment. SATA es la forma en que una unidad de almacenamiento, como un disco duro, se conecta a la placa base de una computadora. Las conexiones SATA transfieren datos utilizando un cable de enlace serial para formar una conexi\u00f3n punto a punto entre el dispositivo de almacenamiento y la placa base.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Esta tecnolog\u00eda, desarrollada en 2003, est\u00e1 presente en muchas computadoras de escritorio, port\u00e1tiles y servidores. Pero en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, algunos fabricantes han abandonado la tecnolog\u00eda SATA en favor de unidades con velocidades m\u00e1s altas. Aun as\u00ed, esta tecnolog\u00eda se mantiene con velocidades de transmisi\u00f3n s\u00f3lidas y excelentes capacidades de almacenamiento.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 es IDE?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IDE son las siglas de Integrated Drive Electronics. IDE es un tipo de dispositivo de Interconexi\u00f3n de Componentes Perif\u00e9ricos (PCI, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) utilizado para transportar datos desde un dispositivo de almacenamiento a los controladores SATA. Esta tecnolog\u00eda tambi\u00e9n es llamada Parallel ATA y fue desarrollada por Western Digital en 1986.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IDE estuvo presente en muchas computadoras desde finales de los a\u00f1os 80 y durante los 90 y es el predecesor de SATA. Los IDE son conocidos por su alto nivel de compatibilidad. Se puede utilizar un IDE casi con cualquier tipo de sistema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pero debido a la antig\u00fcedad de la tecnolog\u00eda, el IDE tiene limitaciones en la inform\u00e1tica moderna y ha quedado como una tecnolog\u00eda obsoleta. Western Digital y Seagate dejaron de fabricar IDEs en 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 es AHCI?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AHCI son las siglas de Advanced Host Controller Interface. AHCI es un tipo de dispositivo de Interconexi\u00f3n de Componentes Perif\u00e9ricos (PCI) para transferir datos de un disco duro a los controladores SATA. Piense en AHCI como un autob\u00fas que va y viene entre el host (sistema principal) y los controladores SATA de la placa base.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AHCI se desarroll\u00f3 en 2004 para sustituir a las interfaces IDE. Este sistema es superior gracias a las funciones mejoradas de gesti\u00f3n del almacenamiento y a la posibilidad de intercambiar unidades en caliente (hot-swap). Como contrapartida, el modo AHCI limita la velocidad porque s\u00f3lo puede mantener 32 peticiones de entrada\/salida en la cola.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfQu\u00e9 es RAID?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RAID son las siglas de Redundant Array of Independent Disks, tambi\u00e9n llamado en espa\u00f1ol como Matriz redundante de discos independientes. Esta tecnolog\u00eda de almacenamiento funciona combinando la capacidad de almacenamiento y el poder de procesamiento de varios discos duros individuales. En una configuraci\u00f3n RAID, se pueden conectar varios discos duros con la misma capacidad de almacenamiento para que funcionen como una sola unidad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La tecnolog\u00eda RAID ofrece una excelente protecci\u00f3n y resiliencia de datos, ya que puede seguir funcionando incluso si uno de los discos de la matriz falla. Una configuraci\u00f3n RAID puede implementarse mediante hardware o software.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00bfC\u00f3mo se comparan estos sistemas entre s\u00ed?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Las siglas y matices infinitos de la tecnolog\u00eda de los discos duros pueden ser dif\u00edciles de entender. Eche un vistazo a esas comparaciones para saber en que se asemejan y en qu\u00e9 se distinguen las tecnolog\u00edas SATA, IDE, AHCI y RAID.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AHCI comparado con RAID<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AHCI transporta datos de una unidad a la placa base, mientras que RAID organiza varios discos duros en una \u00fanica unidad de almacenamiento. Por lo tanto, en teor\u00eda, AHCI podr\u00eda transportar informaci\u00f3n desde una matriz RAID a la placa base. Pero estos componentes no compiten entre s\u00ed, porque no funcionan de la misma forma.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IDE comparado con SATA<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanto IDE como SATA proporcionan un medio para que la informaci\u00f3n viaje desde el disco duro hasta la placa base.
