Fortunately, Windows has taken proactive steps to prepare users for possible hardware and software issues with a few <\/span><b>system recovery options<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These do-it-yourself recovery tools are a great start to resolve many PC issues, but they often leave users wondering if <\/span><b>Windows recovery options <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can restore all their files. The short answer is maybe. And the correct answer is a bit more complicated. So here\u2019s everything you need to know about Windows <\/span><b>system recovery options<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid wpex-relative\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<h2><b>Windows System Repair <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vs. <\/span><b>System Recovery Disks<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When running Windows, there are two <\/span><b>Windows recovery options<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><b>Windows System Repair <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and a <\/span><b>system recovery disk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Both tools will help you get your PC up and running again, but these solutions aren\u2019t the same.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your PC has suffered a minor hardware or software malfunction and can still navigate to the start menu, you can easily run <\/span><b>Windows System Repair<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This built-in software helps you troubleshoot by looking for problems in the startup sequence, resetting the computer back to a set restore point, recovering some files and images or determining if memory errors are causing the problem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your PC turns on but can\u2019t navigate to the startup screen, then you need to use a <\/span><b>system recovery disk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. System recovery disks address more serious issues by forcing a repair when they are inserted into the disk drive. Of course, you have to have a system recovery disk if you want to use one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is a <\/span><b>System Recovery Disk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>system recovery disk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is user-created software essentially acting as your <\/span><b>Windows backup<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This software is a great option when attempting to repair significant hardware or software issues.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Create a <\/span><b>system repair disk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(when your PC is in good working order)<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by going to the \u201cBackup and Restore\u201d menu in the Control Panel and following the prompts. Be sure to print out directions for use and store them in a safe place with the <\/span><b>system recovery disk<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>system recovery disk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a great way to <\/span><b>backup and restore <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a PC, because this software can usually run no matter how bad the error. PC users should strongly consider creating a <\/span><b>system recovery disk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to back up their computers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To use the disk, insert the <\/span><b>system repair disk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">into your PC\u2019s disk drive, then restart your computer. Upon restart, follow the prompts to run the disk. If your PC isn\u2019t configured to automatically run disks, you may need to change your computer\u2019s BIOS settings by consulting your user\u2019s manual.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is <\/span><b>Windows System Repair<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Windows\u2019 System Repair<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is pretty straightforward. This tool is built into your PC and will only work if you\u2019re able to reboot your computer after the error and successfully navigate to the home screen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To run <\/span><b>Windows System Repair<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you must first remove all CDs, USBs and other added hardware and\/or software from your computer. Then, restart the machine using the power button. Press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. This opens \u201cAdvanced Boot Options\u201d where you can use the arrow keys to navigate to \u201cRepair Your Computer.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Windows System Repair<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will then walk you through a series of prompts to restore the most recent version of the operating system. In some cases, the computer will be restored with no data loss. In others, only the most recently created files will be lost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which <\/span><b>Windows Recovery Option<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whether you\u2019re using a <\/span><b>system recovery disk <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><b>Windows System Repair<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the PC will prompt you with several recovery options: Startup Repair, System Restore and System Image Recovery. The PC&#8217;s response to these options largely determines whether your data will be saved or lost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Startup Repair can help with minor issues, specifically dealing with, but not limited to, startup. This usually won\u2019t affect data and won\u2019t cause data loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">System Restore will \u201crestore\u201d the PC to an earlier point in time. This works well if you can still navigate to the home screen, but a recent update or software installation has caused issues. Usually, you\u2019ll be able to restore your data, but not recent program changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">System Image Recovery requires a recent system image to work well. If you\u2019ve created one recently to <\/span><b>back up your computer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this just might work. Unfortunately, this option is almost the equivalent of a factory reset, so be prepared to lose everything if the repair comes to this.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Try each option in the order listed. You\u2019re stuck trying to fix a machine you know little about, all the while worrying about doing something wrong and lowering your chances of getting your data back.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One thing you can do to make this process a bit less stressful is back up your data. When you\u2019ve backed up your information, the severity of your PC problems are no longer an issue, because no matter how bad the diagnosis, at least you have a copy of your data.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can\u2019t turn your computer on? No problem! Don\u2019t understand the troubleshooting process? Who cares?
