This is a staggering number of users, but probably very few of us can accurately answer the question, \u201cWhat kind of hard drive do I have?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many computer owners are more concerned about download speeds, display quality and battery life (in the case of a laptop) rather than the specs of their hard drive. But paying attention to the hard drive is just as important as all the fancier bells and whistles on your computer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re interested, but unsure about what kind of hard drive you have or how to find hard drive capacity, we have the answers for you!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What kind of hard drive do I have?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are several methods to identify the type of hard drive installed on a device. Some of these methods depend on the operating system. Here\u2019s how to get hard drive information for Windows 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Option #1: Run PowerShell<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you need to know how to find a hard drive on a PC, running PowerShell software is one of the best places to start. PowerShell, also known as the command line, is a quick, reliable means to answer the question, \u201cWhat hard drive do I have?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow these simple steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #1: Click the \u201cStart\u201d button in the bottom left corner of the screen to sign in and navigate to access \u201cWindows PowerShell\u201d for no fee. Click on it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #2: Type in the following command: PowerShell \u201cGet-PhysicalDisk | Format-Table -AutoSize\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #3: Look under the \u201cMedia Type\u201d heading. There, you\u2019ll see if your hard drive is an HDD or SSD.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Option #2: Operate the Drive Optimizer Tool<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using the Drive Optimizer is another great way to answer the top comment \u201ccheck my HDD\u201d and find out if your drive is an HDD or an SSD. You may actually already be familiar with this tool! In previous versions of Windows, Drive Optimizer was called Disk Defragmenter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow these steps to use the Drive Optimizer tool:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #1: Open File Explorer and expand \u201cThis PC\u201d in the left navigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #2: Identify the drive you want to learn about, right-click and select \u201cProperties.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #3: Navigate to the \u201cTools\u201d tab and click \u201cOptimize\u201d to open the Drive Optimizer tool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new window will appear and provide details about the hard drive, including whether your disk is HDD or SSD. But if you\u2019re looking for more detailed information, move onto Option 3.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Option #3: Check the System Information Tool<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tool is actually designed to identify and resolve hardware issues, but System Information is also a great place to get information about your system. Go figure!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow these simple steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #1: Use the search box in the bottom left corner and type \u201cSystem Information.\u201d Click on the \u201cSystem Information\u201d app in the search results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #2: Expand \u201cComponents\u201d in the left navigation, then click \u201cStorage\u201d followed by \u201cDisks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #3: After clicking on \u201cDisks,\u201d System Information will provide details about the drive, including the device\u2019s serial number!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware this window will display information about <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> your installed drives\u2014with little visual separation between each component. Although most users will only have one disk, if you do have more on your computer, be sure you\u2019re looking at the right information for the right drive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s how to get hard drive information for\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Option for Macintosh\/Apple OS Users:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #1:<\/span> Go to the Menu bar -&gt; Apple Menu -&gt; About This Mac -&gt; System Report<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #2:<\/span> Select &#8220;Storage&#8221; in the Hardware section<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #3: <\/span>Select the drive under the Volume Name on top<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Step #4: I<\/span>nformation regarding the selected device shows in the second half of the window<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How big is my hard drive?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019ve answered the question, \u201cwhat kind of hard drive do I have,\u201d you\u2019ll probably want to know \u201chow big is my hard drive?\u201d Figuring out how to find out how big your hard drive is may seem like a challenging task, but in reality this information is quite easy to come by.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wondering, \u201cHow do I find out my hard drive size?\u201d The best answer to how to find a hard drive size is simply to run the System Information tool.
