But \u201ca lot\u201d doesn\u2019t really do the magnitude of a zettabyte justice. For a bit of perspective, consider this. If you backed up 175 zettabytes of data onto the largest hard drives available today, you\u2019d need 12.5 billion of those very large drives to save that 175 zettabytes of information.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interestingly, yet not surprisingly, the IDC believes 49 percent\u2014or nearly 86 zettabytes\u2014of this data will reside on <\/span><b>cloud backup solutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Most importantly, those statistics show that the <\/span><b>cloud-based backup solutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are here to stay. So if you haven\u2019t started using <\/span><b>cloud backup<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, now might be the time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But don\u2019t make your decision without some research. Yes, <\/span><b>cloud backup solutions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are the way of the future, but there are plenty of advantages and <\/span><b>disadvantages of cloud storage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">every user should know. When compared to typical hard drives, <\/span><b>cloud-based storage solutions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are well ahead in the size department.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Easy integration<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your business has applications to integrate, don\u2019t worry. Online backup on the cloud automatically integrates. Services like Box, Dropbox and GDrive connect with thousands of apps, letting you easily import or link to your files without actually clicking out of whatever you\u2019re working on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You also have the option to customize integration options so you can back up what you want, how you want.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inexpensive\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you think about storage in terms of price per gigabyte, <\/span><b>cloud storage backup <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is by far the better buy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, Google offers users 15 GB of free storage space. If a user exceeds 15 GB, they can purchase access to 100 GB of cloud storage for just a little over $20 per year. And a terabyte, a somewhat unthinkable amount of storage just a few years ago? Just $9.99 per month. Even if you\u2019re working with a trustworthy <\/span><b>cloud-based storage solution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the internet is still the modern-day equivalent of the wild west. Major security breaches caused by hacking and other digital threats happen every day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is always the possibility that data you\u2019ve backed up to the cloud is at risk. A good rule of thumb: if you don\u2019t want someone else to see your files, don\u2019t store them in the cloud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hardware is still important<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>Cloud-based storage solutions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are here and here to stay. But using the cloud doesn\u2019t mean all hardware should go out the window.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best backup strategy is a two-pronged approach by using a <\/span><b>cloud-based storage solution <\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> hardware. This usually means using some kind of external hard drive or another similar device.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your external hard drive will be your best friend, should you fall victim to one of the <\/span><b>disadvantages of cloud storage<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
