Getestet wird in ruhigem Wasser. Ein Sprung in den Pool oder der Aufprall einer Welle erzeugen jedoch Druck, der Wasser an den Dichtungen vorbeidr\u00fccken kann. Au\u00dferdem erfolgen die Tests mit S\u00fc\u00dfwasser \u2013 nicht mit chlorhaltigem Poolwasser oder Salzwasser, die beide deutlich korrosiver sind. Auch die Dichtungen selbst altern mit der Zeit. Wiederholte Einwirkung hoher Temperaturen macht den Klebstoff, der die Dichtungen an ihrem Platz h\u00e4lt, nach und nach weicher. St\u00fcrze und allt\u00e4gliche St\u00f6\u00dfe k\u00f6nnen zudem winzige, mit blo\u00dfem Auge nicht erkennbare Risse verursachen. Selbst der st\u00e4ndige Druck, der entsteht, wenn das Smartphone t\u00e4glich in der Hosentasche getragen wird, belastet die Dichtungen \u00fcber Monate hinweg. IP-Schutzarten sind aussagekr\u00e4ftig und werden pr\u00e4zise gemessen. Ebenso haben wir Daten von Smartphones wiederhergestellt, die monatelang in Salzwasser lagen, bei denen sich der Prozessor bereits zu delaminieren begann und einige seiner L\u00f6tpads \u2013 jedes etwa ein Viertelmillimeter gro\u00df, also ungef\u00e4hr halb so breit wie ein Sandkorn \u2013 einzeln neu aufgebaut werden mussten. Je l\u00e4nger ein Ger\u00e4t unbehandelt bleibt und je st\u00e4rker die Korrosion fortschreitet, desto schwieriger wird die Datenrettung und desto geringer werden die Erfolgsaussichten.
