Seit ihrer Einf\u00fchrung in den 1990er-Jahren haben sich Solid-State-Drives (SSDs) zu einer der f\u00fchrenden digitalen Speicherl\u00f6sungen des 21. Jahrhunderts entwickelt. Heute konkurrieren sie mit den \u00e4lteren und etablierten Festplattenlaufwerken (HDDs) um Marktvorteile und die Gunst der Verbraucher.<\/span><\/p>\n

HDDs und SSDs sind insofern \u00e4hnlich, als beide dazu dienen, Speicherplatz f\u00fcr Laptops, Desktop-Computer und andere allt\u00e4gliche technische Ger\u00e4te bereitzustellen. Auf diesen Laufwerken speichern wir pers\u00f6nliche und gesch\u00e4ftliche Dokumente, Fotos, Videos und andere digitale Dateien. Im Gegensatz zu HDDs, die mechanische Bauteile nutzen, um Daten auf rotierenden Platten zu lesen und zu schreiben, verwenden SSDs Flash-Speicher zur Informationsspeicherung.<\/span><\/p>\n

SSDs lesen und schreiben Daten auf miteinander verbundene Flash-Speicherchips. Diese Chips sind besonders, weil sie auch ohne Stromzufuhr Daten speichern k\u00f6nnen. Der Verzicht auf mechanische Bauteile macht SSDs sehr kompakt \u2013 ideal f\u00fcr Laptops und andere Ger\u00e4te. Im Jahr 2020 wurden weltweit 320 Millionen SSDs ausgeliefert<\/a>. Der Marktanteil dieser Ger\u00e4te hat sich zwischen 2015 und 2020 mehr als verdreifacht, und die Branche rechnete mit einem Anstieg der Auslieferungen um 13\u202f% im Jahr 2021. 2020 wurden zum ersten Mal mehr SSDs als HDDs verschickt.<\/p>\n

Es gibt gute Gr\u00fcnde, warum SSDs HDDs immer mehr verdr\u00e4ngen. Hohe Lese- und Schreibgeschwindigkeiten<\/span><\/h3>\n

SSDs lesen und schreiben schneller als HDDs. Ein typisches SSD erreicht etwa 550 Megabyte pro Sekunde (MBps)<\/a> beim Lesen und 520 MBps beim Schreiben unter normalen Bedingungen. Eine HDD hingegen schafft nur 125 MBps \u2014 also mehr als viermal langsamer als eine SSD. Anhand der Zahlen wird der enorme Leistungsunterschied sofort deutlich.<\/p>\n

Keine beweglichen Teile<\/span><\/h3>\n

Wie bereits erw\u00e4hnt, haben HDDs mechanische Teile, die Daten manuell auf die Platten lesen und schreiben. Diese beweglichen Teile sind die Hauptursache f\u00fcr Festplattenprobleme, die h\u00e4ufig zu Datenverlust f\u00fchren. SSDs hingegen besitzen keine Mechanik und sind daher deutlich weniger ausfallanf\u00e4llig.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aber das Fehlen beweglicher Teile bringt einen zus\u00e4tzlichen Vorteil mit sich: keinerlei Ger\u00e4usch. Das Summen einer HDD ist ein weltweit vertrautes Ger\u00e4usch. Da SSDs aber keine beweglichen Teile besitzen, erzeugen sie keinerlei Ger\u00e4usch.<\/span><\/p>\n

Physische Gr\u00f6\u00dfe<\/span><\/h3>\n

Das Fehlen beweglicher Teile in einem SSD erm\u00f6glicht ein deutlich kompakteres Design als bei seinen HDD-Vorg\u00e4ngern. Jede SSD hat eine bestimmte Anzahl an Lese- und Schreibvorg\u00e4ngen. Diese wird als \u201eTerabytes Written\u201c (TBW) bezeichnet. Beim Kauf einer SSD ist bereits ein festgelegtes \u201eAblaufdatum\u201c vorhanden, das davon abh\u00e4ngt, wie h\u00e4ufig das Laufwerk genutzt wird.<\/span><\/p>\n

Das mag seltsam erscheinen. Doch in Wirklichkeit liegen die TBW-Grenzen weit \u00fcber dem, was ein durchschnittlicher Nutzer an Lese- und Schreibvorg\u00e4ngen durchf\u00fchrt. <\/span>Eine aktuelle Studie von Google und der Universit\u00e4t Toronto<\/span><\/a> hat gezeigt, dass die meisten SSDs altersbedingt ausfallen \u2013 nicht weil sie das TBW-Limit erreicht haben.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kosten<\/span><\/h3>\n
