Som navnet antyder, kan denne type hukommelse kun l\u00e6se data og ikke skrive dem. ROM er en hurtig form for ikke-flygtig hukommelse, hvilket betyder, at de data, der gemmes i ROM, er permanente og bevares, selv n\u00e5r computeren er slukket. Det skyldes, at ROM ikke er afh\u00e6ngig af elektrisk str\u00f8m for at gemme data, men skriver informationen ind i individuelle celler ved hj\u00e6lp af bin\u00e6r kode.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>ROM bruges ofte til at gemme permanente filer som BIOS og operativsystemet samt instruktioner til at initialisere systemet \u2013 ogs\u00e5 kaldet bootstrap-processen. Den anvendes ogs\u00e5 i indlejrede systemer i husholdningsapparater, medicinsk udstyr og bilteknologi, hvor p\u00e5lidelig software er afg\u00f8rende.
