Abstract: Advanced Mobile Forensics: Overcoming Physical Challenges with Laboratory Services

The use of smartphones is growing faster than any other storage technology. Explore how technologies involved with mobile devices pose new challenges to forensic practitioners, the inner workings of the newest smartphones and best practices for extracting as much forensically sound information as possible for use in civil and criminal cases. Speaker Bio: Rene Novoa, Manager of eDiscovery and Digital Forensics at DriveSavers

As manager of eDiscovery and digital forensics, Rene oversees high-level client relationships, performs forensic examinations and manages eDiscovery workflow projects. Since joining DriveSavers in 2001, Rene Novoa has performed data recovery on thousands of storage devices plagued with mechanical failures, physical damage and logical corruption as well as provided forensic images for law enforcement and expert witness testimony in criminal and civil cases. Over the past 5 years, Rene has focused his efforts on emerging technology while developing forensic processes for recovering data from failed electronic devices.
Rene has shared his knowledge through presentations and lectures for various eDiscovery and forensic groups and conferences, including the National Cyber Crimes Conference, High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA) and Women in eDiscovery (WiE). He is currently Vice President of the HTCIA Bay Area chapter.
